Trojan Energy have developed a radical new approach to on-street EV charging. Using flat and flush connection points embedded in the pavement, users can insert a charging lance into a charge point and the connected cable into their EV to receive a 7kw or up to 22kw charge. Trialling 200 connections in central London this year (Brent and Camden) in consortium alongside UKPN and Octopus Energy the Trojan technology eliminates the need for on-street clutter, the need for dedicated EV charging bays and promises charge points at a radically lower price point compared to conventional on-street charging posts.
GARO Electric celebrated its birthday in 2019. GARO has now been manufacturing electrical distribution products in Sweden for 80 years. GARO has also been manufacturing a range of Electric Vehicle charging stations for the last 9 years. For Garo the move to manufacturing Electric Vehicle charging stations is an evolution rather than a revolution. GARO has been manufacturing car heater stations for the Nordic region for the last 40 years. This car heater product allows the car owner to connect their car to an AC supply to enable the car to pre-heat oil, water and to supply a heater in the main cabin of the car. GARO has supplied 1.2M of these products over the last 40 years. For GARO the move to Electric car charging stations is not the quantum leap that it was for other manufacturers, it was a matter of fitting a different type of outlet to facilitate car charging.
Turbo Power Systems, based in Gateshead, have an unrivalled 40-year track record in supplying power electronics and high-speed motors to evolving industries through transport and energy.
TPS are innovating to meet the practical challenges that come with the Government’s ambitious target to move to electric vehicles by 2035. The resultant demand for improved and sustained vehicle charging will require additional capacity in both supply and infrastructure. Rapid EV charging, whilst essential, will result in higher power demand in urban and rural areas where existing electricity sub-stations and cabling will easily become constrained.
Unless another approach is adopted, substantive charges for supply upgrades will be incurred, either nationally by the public, or locally by the EV rapid charger facility financier. However, we and our partners are challenging the industry to change the way they think about the facilitation of rapid charging, using the micro grid approach.
